Isaiah 40:1-5 + Psalm 27:1, 5, 13-14

Isaiah 40:1-5 (NIV)

Comfort, comfort my people, says your God. Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and proclaim to her that her hard service has been completed, that her sin has been paid for, that she has received from the Lord’s hand double for all her sins. A voice of one calling: “In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain. And the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all people will see it together. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”

Psalm 27:1, 5,13-15(NIV)

The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid? For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent and set me high upon a rock. I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.

Devotion

In Bob’s message this weekend, he focused on five attributes of God’s character: Majesty, Immensity, Sovereignty, Power and Personal Care. Which of these characteristics is most important to you considering the current crisis our world is facing? Why?

Prayer

  • Pray for those feeling lonely, those with the virus and chronically ill – they may know the Lord’s Comfort. Rest in His sovereignty. Their eyes to turn to Him.
  • Pray for the greater 1 church, we all will use this time of “isolation” to have extended personal time in the Word of God, prayer, worship, singing, ministering the love of Christ in unique ways.
  • Pray for the virus to be demolished and Jesus would be glorified.
  • Pray as the Spirit leads you.
Suggested prayer:
God, I praise You for being sovereign, all powerful, eternal God, majestic and glorious. You hold the universe in the palm of Your Hand, You command the wind and the waves and the rising and setting of the sun. Thank You Lord that You are also my Savior, the stronghold of my life and I am secure in You, oh God. You are acquainted with all my ways and I can rest that You are with me and for me. Forgive me Abba for thinking on negative things rather than fixing my eyes on You. Thank You that I can come into Your throne room of grace through the blood of Jesus Christ to talk to You at any time-wow, thank You, thank You Lord. Holy Spirit help me to remember this reality and enable me to trust You and, in Your faithfulness, as well as sharing You and Your love to those around me. Help me to look right at You, talk with You, abide in You and Your love. Draw me Lord by Your Spirit to Yourself, I want to know you more I ask in the Name of Jesus Christ, amen.
